Sidney Stringer Primary and Radford Primary have a combined Local Governing Body. The Local Governing Body is made up of a number on individuals including Community Governors, Parent Governors, and representatives from the school staff including the head teacher.
The Local Governing Body has a strategic role in ensuring the school fulfils it’s mission by:
· thinking and working strategically to help raise standards
· monitoring and evaluating progress towards the school’s priorities and targets
· encouraging, supporting and challenging the Head Teacher and staff
The Local Governing Body has to be able to recognise when:
· the school deserves recognition and celebration
· when support and challenge is required
Some of the things that the Local Governing Body do:
· visits to the school
· attend school events
· linking to particular areas of the curriculum such as English, Mathematics, Special Educational Needs and the curriculum
· inviting staff to give presentations to the Governing Body about their area of leadership
The Local Governing Body is committed to:
· working as a team
· knowing the schools
· having effective meetings – held twice termly
· attending training and development events to make sure we have the skills to perform well
· creating a good relationship with parents, carers and all those who work with the school to provide support
Claire Finkel – Chair of Governors/Co-Opted Governor (Safeguarding, English/Reading and Foundation Curriculum)
I am a qualified teacher with 20 years of teaching experience in a range of schools. In my previous school I was the Deputy Head, a role that means I understand the challenges of School Leadership.
In my current role I work as a Consultant Trainer working with across a range of schools to support all staff to teach all children to learn to read.
In my role of School Governor, I challenge and support the leadership of Sidney Stringer and Radford Primary School to ensure that all children achieve their full potential.
John Griffiths – Co-Opted Governor (Maths)
My journey, like us all, has by no means been a straight path. Its bends and tangents built my resilience and strength, allowing me to become an educator, governor, innovator, investor, business owner – and more.
The effort to stay ahead of innovation and to apply savvy strategies afforded me the recognition of being nominated for Chamber of Commerce “Start-up Game Changer 2nce022.”
One guiding aim that’s helped me grow and overcome is rooted in the ancient Greek concept ‘Arete,’ meaning “achieving the fullest of one’s potential and virtue.” be your best self and be good.
This philosophy enabled me to overcome barriers and those associated with SEND. However, neurodiversity is something to be celebrated, and each of us is unique with many strengths. I believe wholeheartedly in each person that they can thrive in adversity, and I wish to bring this passion to my role as governor.
Lise Reeve – Co-Opted Governor (Inclusion and Early Years Foundation Stage)
My name is Lise Reeve, I am married with two grown up daughters. I have recently retired, having worked in educational settings since 2000. I joined SSP when it first started in 2015. I enjoyed being involved in setting up the new school and have thoroughly enjoyed working with the children and their families.
I have worked with both SSP and Radford Schools especially during the City of Culture Year when I helped the children take part in, and experience, as many activities as possible.
I believe extra-curricular activities are incredibly important and that the children should be given as many opportunities as possible to increase their cultural capital.
I am excited to join the school Governing body and am looking forward to getting involved from a different angle!

What’s involved?
Attend around 4 meetings a year (about 2 hours each).
Visit the school once a term.
Bring your unique skills, perspectives, and life experiences to the table—no prior school experience required!
