This week in Year 4, we encountered area for the first time. We learnt that area is the amount of space taken up by a two-dimensional shape or surface. We explored different ways of working out the area of a shape, and recognised that some ways are better than others. We found the area of classroom objects using square pieces of paper and discussed the importance of measuring accurately.
