In the last two geography lessons, the children have been looking at the question of: should we be travelling to Antarctica as tourists? In the first lesson, children undertook some research and weighed up the disadvantages and advantages of travelling to Antarctica. The children looked at arguments including: travelling to Antarctica could be useful as it could provide educational opportunities and travelling to Antarctica could encourage travellers to donate to wider research conservation projects. On the other hand, children also looked at arguments against travelling to Antarctica including: pollution issues, oil spillages from passing ships and disturbing endangered species. In the second lesson, children used all of this knowledge to create and design a poster which was to either promote travellers to Antarctica or to persuade people to stay away from Antarctica.
