Punctuality

School starts promptly at 8.45am.  The main school gate and the doors to all classrooms of the school will be opened by staff at 8.35am.  If a child arrives at school after 8.45am without prior arrangements having been agreed, he/she will be deemed late and will need to be signed in at the main school office.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

In September 2013, the Government introduced some significant changes to attendance regulations for pupils at school. The regulations will continue to apply during this academic year. The most important of these is in relation to term-time leave of absence. The amendments set out in Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013, govern all requests for leave within term-time. When considering such requests for a leave of absence, the school are obliged to act within the law.

The amended regulations removed references to ‘holiday’ and ‘extended leave’, as well as the statutory threshold of 10 school days.

The Academy seeks to maximise the achievement of all pupils, and the aim of ensuring that all pupils attend every school day is a cornerstone of this approach. As such, we expect that parents support us in our approach by ensuring that any pupil holidays are taken during the calendared academy holiday dates.

We regret that we shall not authorise any holidays taken in term time, and will pursue the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices for such holidays of 5 days or more.

It is important to note: Fixed Penalty Notices are issued to each parent of each absent child, (for example 2 children and 2 parents, means each parent will receive 2 invoices in the amount of £120 each, totalling £240 for both children.

Further details are available in the Academy's Attendance Policy.

Why attendance matters:

• Less than 5 days absence  = 98%+ attendance

• 14 days absence (approx.) = 93.5% attendance

• 20 days absence (approx.) = 90% attendance

• 30 days absence (approx.) = 88% attendance

• If a child achieves 80% attendance this means that they have missed approximately 40 days of education over the academic year, averaging 1 day per week.

Persistent absence is deemed when attendance is 90 or below%.

Some facts:

• There are 190 school days each year and 175 other days for shopping trips, birthday treats, non urgent appointments and holidays.

• One day a week absence is the equivalent over a school career of 2.5 whole years of education missed.

• 10 days holiday leave a year is the equivalent of two whole terms of education missed.

• 15 minutes of lateness a day equals one whole year of education missed.

Please give your child the best chance and make sure they are in school every day.
