This Term's Plan

Friday 8th December 2017

The children in Year 2 have been busy coming up with ideas of how they could make Hillfields an even better place to live. They worked in small groups to come up with some ideas and then they worked as a class to decide on questions they hoped local Hillfields residents would answer.

The children are interested in the opinions of local people. Please take five minutes to complete the questionnaire by clicking on the link below. It will be so useful for the children to have some real data to look at. Thank you for all your support.

We had another enjoyable trip today. This time we went to Warwick Arts Centre to see The Bear Hunt. The children really enjoyed the show and, again, were very well behaved! A fantastic week in Year 2!

Science lecture

Some of the Year 2 children who attend Science Club went to an exciting Science lecture at Warwick University Arts Centre this week with their parents, Miss Lightfoot and Dr Essex! We learnt lots of cool things about light and colours, including how to make glow sticks and how the different colours on the surface of bubbles are created.

Tuesday 5th December 2017

This morning Year 2 visited Coventry Cathedral to attend the Christingle celebrations. The children sang their song beautifully and their behaviour was fantastic. Well done Year 2.

Monday 20th November 2017

Year 2 have carried on being Street Detectives this afternoon but this time they have been investigating the properties of different materials. They had a close look at lots of different building materials, thought about the properties and even started to wonder why certain materials are used for particular parts of buildings.

Friday 17th November 2017

Year 2 have been supporting Children in Need by wearing something spotty. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a brilliant cause!

Thursday 16th November 2017

This week Year 2 have been absolutely fascinated by some photos we found online. A photographer called Nick Stone has merged old photos of Hillfields with new ones and we couldn't believe our eyes. The photographs have been so useful in helping the children on their journey as Street Detectives; they have helped them to imagine what life would have been like in the past.

Thursday 9th November 2017

Today Year 2 had a visit from West Midlands Police. The Police Officers came in to talk to the children about how Hillfields has changed over the last 10 years. The children pre-prepared questions to ask and enjoyed finding out the answers.

Thursday 2nd November 2017

Today Year 2 have been turned into Street Detectives! We went for a walk around the local area and kept our eyes peeled for clues to the past. We saw lots of interesting new and old buildings.

Thursday 2nd November 2017

We are trying something new! We have set some homework through Education City. You need to log in using your user name and password given out at Progress Day and then have a go at completing the activity we have set called 'Cracking Contractions.' We have focused on contractions this week at school and it will help the children to consolidate their learning! Good luck!

Tuesday 31st October 2017

We have started reading a new book in English called 'The Magic Finger.' So far we have found out that the main character has very strong feelings about hunting. We decided to find out more about fox hunting so we used the iPads to research the topic. We looked on the BBC Newsround website and found out arguments for and against fox hunting. Tomorrow we are going to have a class debate to help our understanding further.
