Year 2 Blog

Welcome to the year two blog page, which will be updated regularly so that you can keep updated with what's been happening school side.

Tuesday 6th February

Today Year 2 celebrated E-Safety day!

Tuesday 30th January

Flamingoes Class visited Pizza Express in Warwick today. They spent the morning with Chef Nelson who taught them all about how pizzas are made. Nelson gave the children a tour of the kitchen and told them about the four different areas of food preparation. The children learnt about different ingredients that are often used at pizza express and finally they made their very own pizzas!

Wednesday 24th January

The children have been learning about a type of Japanese art called 'Suminagashi.' It involves floating ink on water and printing the patterns onto paper.

Tuesday 16th January 2018

Year 2 have had a very exciting morning! We walked from school to Coventry Cathedral where the children waited patiently for Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge. The children had an opportunity to ask their questions to the royal couple and even passed on some Sidney Stringer bears! Look out for us in the newspapers!

Wednesday 10th January

Year 2 have now made their Marvellous Medicines! They thoroughly enjoyed pretending to be George and making medicine that was as gruesome as possible!

Wednesday 10th January

Year 2 have got off to a slimey start this term! We have been reading George's Marvellous medicine and couldn't resist having a go ourselves! The children will be making their own Marvellous Medicine this week and to get some ideas they have been exploring some gruesome ingredients! The children used their experiences to write descriptive sentences using adjectives and alliteration.

"The oozey scrumptious bumpy baked beans" - Zara.

"A spoonful of delicious squelchy runny rice pudding" - Cigdem.

"A small handful of slimey jiggly jolly jelly" - Maryam P.

Monday 18th December

Year 2 have been busy baking this afternoon! They have made lots of mince pies ready for their Christmas Concert on Wednesday. The children worked with the other children in their groups to carefully follow the recipe.

Friday 8th December 2017

The children in Year 2 have been busy coming up with ideas of how they could make Hillfields an even better place to live. They worked in small groups to come up with some ideas and then they worked as a class to decide on questions they hoped local Hillfields residents would answer.

The children are interested in the opinions of local people. Please take five minutes to complete the questionnaire by clicking on the link below. It will be so useful for the children to have some real data to look at. Thank you for all your support.

Thursday 7th December 2017

We had another enjoyable trip today. This time we went to Warwick Arts Centre to see The Bear Hunt. The children really enjoyed the show and, again, were very well behaved! A fantastic week in Year 2!

Science lecture

Some of the Year 2 children who attend Science Club went to an exciting Science lecture at Warwick University Arts Centre this week with their parents, Miss Lightfoot and Dr Essex! We learnt lots of cool things about light and colours, including how to make glow sticks and how the different colours on the surface of bubbles are created.

Tuesday 5th December 2017

This morning Year 2 visited Coventry Cathedral to attend the Christingle celebrations. The children sang their song beautifully and their behaviour was fantastic. Well done Year 2.

Friday 17th November 2017

Year 2 have been supporting Children in Need by wearing something spotty. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a brilliant cause!

Monday 20th November 2017

Year 2 have carried on being Street Detectives this afternoon but this time they have been investigating the properties of different materials. They had a close look at lots of different building materials, thought about the properties and even started to wonder why certain materials are used for particular parts of buildings.
