Year 3 Blog

Welcome to the year three blog page, which will be updated regularly so that you can keep updated with what's been happening school side.

This week some year 3 children have been to visit Hillfields Nursery School to read some stories to the children there. They did really well and acted beautifully as reading role models. Afterwards, they then had a little bit of fun playing with their new friends in the garden too!

On Wednesday year 3 had a visit from a Mad Scientist! They loved watching the presentation, all about how science is used to do magic tricks. They learned lots of good new words like force, thrust, air resistance, gravity, exothermic reaction and centrifugal force! The children then had a workshop in their classes with the Mad Scientist where they found out how you can propel a model car forwards, spin a bucket of balls around without spilling any, make a train float and control a roller coaster all using simple forces and magnets. It was very exciting and the children thoroughly enjoyed it!

Year 3 have been finding out which materials attract magnets and which do not.

Year 3 have been using clues from the text to draw a picture of Stig's Cave.

Year 3 have been learning about rotational symmetry using chalks on the playground!

Year 3 have been making collages of their favourite predators!

Year 3 have been learning about the 8 key reading skills. They have been learning both what they mean, and how to use them in their reading. Why don't you try talking some of them over at home!

On Tuesday year 3 visited Cadbury's World. They went in the 4D cinema, joined in with a Bean to Bar workshop and had a tour of the factory, including eating lots of chocolate!

The children have been learning all about the story of King Midas. They each had a turn in the hot seat, answering questions from the crowd about his love for gold and his bad decision!

It's been another great week in Year 3. The children are getting really quick with their timestables! Please keep up the practise at home. Click here to see this week's Year 3 homework. (12th Oct)

We have been working really hard in Year 3 this week, continuing with our topic on the Ancient Greeks. The children have enjoyed learning about the story of King Midas. Click here to see the latest Year 3 homework (5th Oct)

The children visited the local park, where they collected and named lots of seeds. We also looked at where the seeds were in relation to the plant that they came from, and discussed how they would have got there and why.

Look at all of our seeds!

The children visited Birmingham Museum, where they got to see lots of real Ancient Greek artefacts. They have used paint to recreated decorative plates, like the ones that they saw at the museum. Click here to see some pictures!

Year 3 have been using Papier-Mache to make model heads of The Minotaur from Greek mythology. Check out those terrible horns! Watch this space for the finished article... Click here to see some pictures
